Amazon Web Services outage causes issues for its U.S users

Outages afflicted Amazon Web Services, including prime video. Thousands of users in the United States were unable to access Amazon Web Services (AWS) applications on December 7.

More than 14,000 people reported issues with Amazon, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

On Tuesday, around 10:40 a.m. ET, users began reporting issues, and the outage may have affected a larger number of people.

This resulted in slow loading times for many popular third-party apps, including Tinder, Fortnite, Duolingo, Disney+, and Netflix. The Wall Street Journal’s publication was also delayed.

“Netflix which runs nearly all of its infrastructure on AWS appears to have lost 26% of its traffic,” Doug Madory, head of internet analysis at analytics firm Kentik, said.

According to their social media pages and Twitter accounts, other services such as Amazon’s Ring security cameras, mobile banking app Chime, and robot vacuum cleaner maker iRobot were also experiencing issues.

“A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage is currently impacting our iRobot Home App,” iRobot wrote on its website.

This would have been the company’s 3rd connectivity issue this year. Over the last 12 months, Amazon has encountered 27 interruptions about its services.

Users on Amazon platforms such as Alexa and Prime Video experienced outages in June, with the incident also affecting companies such as Shopify, PayPal, and CNN.

In a report on its service health dashboard Amazon said that in the US-EAST-1 Region, they have been having API and console troubles.

In line with the overall market, the company’s shares jumped 2.8 % to $3,523.29 at the end of the day.
