DP World and Rosatom Ink Deal to Set Up Global Logistics Operator

DP World, the UAE global port operator, and Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation signed an agreement to set up an international logistics operator to operate in Russia and international markets.

The newly created logistics operator will make use of established trade infrastructure in Russia, Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America, including the Northern Sea Route. It will also help boost logistics integration between Brics nations, bolster supply chains, boost trade turnover and sustainable development, according to the press release.

The agreement is another step towards strengthening cooperation between Rosatom and DP World. On 15 June 2023, the companies agreed on the joint development of Euro-Asian transport logistics and container shipping along the Northern Sea Route, and in October they created a joint venture, International Container Logistics LLC, which is implementing a project to create the first regular Arctic container line.

The signing ceremony, which took place on the side lines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference –COP28 – in Dubai, was attended by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev and Group Chairman and CEO of DP World Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.

The agreement is aimed at increasing the efficiency of international trade exchange, primarily between the BRICS countries and their partners, as well as at creating seamless, sustainable global transport and logistics chains. To achieve the stated goal, the parties intend to create an international logistics operator to operate in the Russian and international markets.

Rosatom and DP World will help ensure logistics integration between BRICS members and partner countries, aimed at expanding and improving the reliability of global supply chains, growing global trade turnover and implementing the global sustainable development agenda.

The agreement will be implemented on the basis of the supporting infrastructure of Russia (including the Northern Sea Route), Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa and South America, Rosatom said.

Speaking on the occasion, Alexey Likhachev said that reliable and flexible supply chains were necessary for the sustainable development of economic and international cooperation among BRICS members and partner countries with the participation of Russia.

“Today we have agreed with DP World to combine our experience, competencies and infrastructure capabilities to create a global logistics operator that will help increase the transparency and accessibility of transport and logistics services primarily for developing countries in Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa and South America,” he said.
