Dubai International Airport Ranked First Among 10 Busiest Internationally
Dubai international airport has been ranked first among the top 10 busiest international airports for June 2023, according to the UK-based Official Airline Guide (OAG), a reputed global travel data provider.
The top 10 busiest global airports are calculated using total airline capacity (domestic and international flights). The Top 10 Busiest International Airports are calculated using international frequency.
“The busiest airport for international flights in June 2023 is Dubai International (DXB). With 4.6 million seats, the airport has 17% more international capacity than the next busiest international airport, London Heathrow (LHR) with 4 million seats,” the OAG said.
Seats per day at Dubai (DXB) have increased by 2% compared to last month and London Heathrow (LHR) has increased by 1%. Amsterdam (AMS), ranked in third place, has added 1% more seats per day compared to last month.
Frankfurt (FRA) has added the biggest number of seats this month, adding 133,687 which is 8% more seats per day than last month. Frankfurt (FRA) is the 5th busiest international airport. Doha (DOH) has also added 8% more seats per day compared to last month adding just over 99k seats and is in 9th place, OAG data showed.
London Gatwick (LGW) has moved up into the top 10 international airports in 10th place with 2.2 million seats and Madrid (MAD) has dropped out.
“The busiest international airports are concentrated in the Middle East and Europe with two in the Middle East – Dubai international airport and Doha International Airport – and six in Europe. The remaining two airports are in Asia, and they are in Singapore and South Korea.
Capacity Wise Too
Dubai International airport is also ranked second among the top 10 busiest airports in the world as far as airline capacity (domestic and international flights) is concerned.
Atlanta (ATL) is the world’s busiest airport in June 2023 with 5.3 million seats followed by Dubai International Airport (DXB) with 4.6 million seats, the OAG data said.
“There is one less day in June compared to May, looking at seats per day shows Atlanta and Dubai have both increased capacity by 4% and 2% respectively this month compared to last month,” OAG data said.
Tokyo (HND) continues to be the third biggest airport with 4.4 million seats and seats per day and has retained its position like in May this year.
In the top 10 busiest airports Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) has had the biggest increase in seats per day with 9% more compared to last month moving the airport up to 4th place. London Heathrow has dropped one place to be the 5th busiest airport this month with 4.1 million seats.
Guangzhou (CAN) has dropped out of the top 10 busiest airports this month from being the 7th busiest airport last month and Paris Charles de Gaulle has moved up into 10th place with 3.6 million seats.
Cairo-Doha Corridor
The OAG data also revealed that Cairo-Doha air corridor as one of the top 10 busiest international air routes. The route saw a massive 107,568 seats booked in June, positioning it in sixth place in the African continent.
