Honda has a five-star ranking on the FIA Road Safety Index owing to its global dedication to safe mobility and various safety programmes implemented in the MENA region. For over 75 years now, Honda has been driven by one simple but profound mission—to enhance the quality of people’s lives through mobility. From cars to motorcycles, from marine motors to power equipment, and all the way to the sky with the HondaJet, Honda has created a global enterprise based on the idea that technology is meant to bring freedom, convenience, and happiness to people.
The philosophy has definitely found a deep resonance within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), where Honda has been making its customers happy for decades with a range of products that cater to their needs and desires. The company’s cars are a combination of practicality, comfort, performance, and technology. The motorcycles from this company ensure an easy and enjoyable ride with the help of E-Clutch and dual-clutch transmission systems that can be used by different types of customers. In addition to this, its marine engines help people experience riding on the water.
The company is more than just a purveyor of goods across the region; it is about knowing how people live, work, and move about and providing products that will assist them in achieving their dreams and making their travels a bit easier. Whether it is the family who takes a vacation ride, the motorcyclist who explores the pleasure of riding on two wheels, or someone who finds enjoyment in the water and in the use of Honda power equipment, there is always one aim: giving freedom and happiness to people.
In a pioneering move, Honda Motor Co. (Middle East & Africa Office), along with its distributor Al-Futtaim Honda, launched the first-ever joint motorcycle safety training programme for delivery riders in the UAE in collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on September 11, 2025.
This intensive training programme took place on September 11 and 12, 2025, at the Dubai Autodrome Circuit and was aimed at delivery riders of prominent apps like Talabat, Noon, and Smiles.
Focused on food delivery riders who are always seen riding on the roads of the city, this campaign acknowledges such riders as the unsung heroes of modern times. Through its concern for these riders, Honda and RTA are promoting a culture on the roads that is characterised by discipline and respect.
Honda became the first company in the automotive industry to earn the three-star rating in February 2025. This was the highest rating possible in the Index at the time, based on Honda’s operations in Japan.
Since then, the FIA has expanded the Road Safety Index from three stars to five, strengthening its methodology and adding three new assessment modules: planning, safety performance monitoring, and safety culture management and supply chain or products/services coverage.
Honda’s dedication to people and society is also evident in its efforts to ensure safety for everyone. In line with its mission of establishing a society that allows everybody to travel safely on the road, Honda’s latest FIA Road Safety Index rating is one such milestone.
Honda became the world’s first company to achieve the new five-star rating under the FIA Road Safety Index, a milestone that affirms the company’s dedication to the measurement, improvement, and expansion of its road safety footprint.
For Honda, this is not just an accolade for what it has done, but a reflection of the responsibility it continues to carry: to use its expertise in technology and products to ensure that people have safer means of movement and a brighter future ahead of them.
This historic achievement was recognised at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy, during the FIA Formula One Italian Grand Prix in September 2026.
The FIA Road Safety Index is a tool designed to allow organisations and companies to gauge the effect of their activities on road safety.
The Index is a measure that evaluates the road safety activities of each organisation, and it fosters a culture of safety within them.
Using the FIA Road Safety Index, the FIA is continually working to engage both public and private sector entities all over the world in measuring and improving their road safety performance to make the roads safer for everyone, everywhere.
Two ratings exist in the FIA Road Safety Index:
The “supply chain rating,” which takes into consideration all the business processes that involve purchasing materials for producing goods, producing those goods, and delivering them to consumers.
The “products/services rating,” which assesses the safety features of the products/services. Honda won the highest five-star rating in the products/services rating.
For the Index, Honda extended its assessment scope to include 17 countries that make up more than 90 per cent of the company’s global sales in terms of motorcycles and cars, and underwent an assessment by the FIA.
Consequently, the entire plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle that Honda had developed for its safety programmes, along with the new areas of assessment added to it, was viewed very positively.
Honda undertook several initiatives, which received high recognition, as follows:
Honda has been dedicated to pursuing safety initiatives under the slogan of “Safety for Everyone.”
In the future, Honda will continue to make progress in verifying the effectiveness of its safety technologies against real-world traffic collision data, and will contribute to solving society’s problems related to road safety.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said road safety remains one of the world’s most urgent challenges and that no single organisation or sector can address it alone, adding that progress depends on action at scale across the public and private sectors. He said the FIA has an important role to play in accelerating that change and, alongside its work with companies, encourages governments to consider how the Index methodology can support regulatory compliance frameworks and strengthen road safety standards. Ben Sulayem said the aim is to build a shared culture in which road safety is recognised as a fundamental responsibility, and he congratulated Honda on leading the way as the first organisation to receive five stars.
Shunsuke Yamada, Director, Honda Motor Co. (Middle East Office), said receiving the highest five-star rating is a significant achievement for Honda and a strong recognition of its commitment to making road safety a shared responsibility. He said Honda is proud to be the first company to achieve the rating, and that it is striving to reduce traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles worldwide by 50 per cent by 2030, and to reach zero by 2050.
