Hornet Solar Project Begins Commercial Operations in Texas

Vesper Energy, which is based in Greater Dallas area in the US, has announced the launch of commercial operations of Hornet Solar, its flagship energy project in Swisher County, Texas. The project is said to be one of the largest single-phase solar farms in the US.

Hornet Solar includes over 1.36 million modules and spans more than six sq. m. in Swisher County, and it will contribute more than $100 million in new tax revenue to Swisher County and deliver 600 MWac of energy, enough to power 160,000 homes annually.

Texas is a utility-scale solar leader in the US, with a ranking of No. 2 and 37,713 MW currently installed. It’s projected to install 51,144 MW over the next five years and move into the No. 1 spot, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The total solar investment in the state is $45.2 billion.

Vesper energy’s Co-CEO Juan Suarez said that Hornet Solar is a testament to how large-scale energy projects can deliver reliable, domestic power to American homes and businesses.

“This project isn’t just about solar panels but is about making energy more affordable while strengthening our nation’s energy security. With Hornet Solar fully operational, we are helping power a community with domestically generated electricity, ensuring businesses & communities have the energy they need to grow and thrive,” he said.

The event marked this milestone toward energy independence with guided tours of the project, speeches by Vesper executives, and networking.

Vesper Energy began construction on Hornet Solar in the Fall of 2023 and announced that it secured $590 million in financing to further advance the project in January 2024. Since its inception, Hornet Solar has achieved several major milestones, including the installation of its one-millionth solar panel in December 2024 and the installation of its final module in January 2025.

Hornet Solar’s Vice President, EPC, Zach Wald said that the scale of the project speaks for itself—1.36 million panels, and 600 MW of capacity. But the real impact is what this project delivers to Swisher County: more than $100 million in new tax revenue and meaningful investments in schools, infrastructure, and healthcare.

Significant Economic Benefits

Hornet Solar is generating significant economic benefits for Swisher County and the surrounding region. The project created over 300 jobs during construction and will contribute new tax revenue to essential public services, including $61 million for the Tulia Independent School District, $25 million for the County, and $12 million for the Swisher Memorial Hospital District.

Vesper Energy provides innovative solutions to today’s complex energy challenges. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Vesper Energy has delivered more than 10 GW of energy projects globally. As on today, its development pipeline includes over 55 solar and energy storage assets with a generating capacity of 17 GW—enough to power more than 2 million homes.

Working with their customers, communities, and business partners, Vesper Energy develops, owns, and operates energy projects across the United States with the goal of building better energy infrastructure.
