PE Firm Creador Acquires Controlling Stake in MG Group

Creador, a prominent private equity firm in South and Southeast Asia, on Thursday announced that it has acquired a controlling stake in Indonesia’s MG Group, Southeast Asia’s leading B2B hospitality marketplace.

This strategic investment positions MG Group to expand globally, leveraging its advanced technology platform and extensive network of over 350,000 accommodation suppliers and 8,000 global buyers, MG Group said.

Asia now accounts for the largest share of global travel, driven by its burgeoning middle class, rapid urbanisation, and a younger demographic eager to explore the world.

MG Group, deeply embedded in this dynamic region, is uniquely positioned to spearhead the future of B2B hospitality from its Southeast Asian stronghold. With its scalable, low-cost model and proprietary technology, Creador’s acquisition of MG sets the stage for global expansion.

MG Group’s proprietary micro services-based platform, MG Jarvis, has revolutionised B2B hotel distribution by delivering rapid low-cost connectivity and high quality, real-time distribution.

With Southeast Asia experiencing a travel boom fuelled by a burgeoning middle class and rapid digital adoption, MG Group is playing a pivotal role in connecting global buyers and suppliers with unparalleled efficiency.

In 2024, MG Group achieved a y-o-y growth rate of nearly 50%, and this growth underscored MG Group’s ability to scale its low-cost, high-impact distribution model across diverse markets. Hotels appreciate MG’s platform’s ability to allow them maintain tight and granular level controls over their distribution across B2B channels and markets as well as MG’s strength in the TTA segment.

Welcoming Creador’s investment, Brett Henry, President Director and CEO at MG Group, remarked that this was a defining moment for his company. Partnering with Creador provided them with the resources and expertise to expand their footprint, strengthen the company’s platform, and deliver even greater value to its partners.

He added: “Together, we will shape the future of B2B hospitality in Southeast Asia and beyond. I would like to thank Northstar for their steadfast support during the COVID pandemic years and for enabling MG Group’s digital transformation, which laid the foundation for our current success.”

Creador’s Founder and CEO, Brahmal Vasudevan, said that Asia is not just the largest travel market and the region was defining the future of travel.

MG Group’s innovative platform and lean business model make it uniquely equipped to lead the next wave of growth in global B2B hospitality. With this investment, we are building a global platform from the world’s fastest-growing region, he added.

Northstar CIO Wong Chee-Yann said that under Brett Henry’s leadership, MG Group successfully navigated the COVID pandemic’s significant impact on the hospitality sector during 2020-22 and emerged stronger than before.

They did that by taking the opportunity to digitalize operations, which improved productivity substantially, and established global strategic partnerships, such that MG Group delivered strong profitable growth from 2022. We look forward to MG Group’s continued growth and success, Wong added.
