Purchasing EVs on the black market in the UAE, motorists fail to see the “Full Picture”

Automobile lovers that are in a search for purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) on the UAE’s grey market, an unofficial market for financial securities need to have a serious re-think as they frequently neglect to realize the volume of the issues they will eventually end up dealing with after their purchase.

Many auto manufacturers and dealerships have advised not to buy without having complete information.

Victor Dalmau, managing director of Volkswagen Middle East has expressed his concerns about buyers not being privy to all the data they need for them to make an informed decision.

He said that The Volkswagen all-electric products (ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6) sold by unofficial importers in the UAE are the Chinese variants that are designed and built for the Chinese market and not for the UAE market. This buying of vehicles has consequences.

These automobiles do not fulfill all the legal requirements of the UAE government.

The vehicles have not been tested, nor authorized, by Volkswagen to be used in the UAE. Hence, the brand cannot ensure its full proper functionality.

these products have no warranty from the manufacturer nor can be serviced by our official Volkswagen dealerships.

He explained that Volkswagen EVs are operated by software that oversees all functionalities of the car, from the infotainment to the power management of the batteries.

Similar to our phones, Volkswagen constantly updates the cars via the Internet. Since these cars have software designed for the Chinese market, Volkswagen would not be in a position to keep them updated in the UAE.

According to 6Wresearch, the UAE Electric Vehicle Market size is projected to grow at a CAGR of 24.2% in terms of revenues from 2022 to 2028. In this trend of buying EVs, people should be careful and should have access to all knowledge needed for buying an Electronic vehicle.
