Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Passes Away

The Global Business Magazine deeply mourns H E Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative of Al Ain, the Eastern region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, who passed away on Wednesday.

He was a member of the Emirati royal family and businessman. He was previously deputy chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council. In November 2018, the road from Al Ain to Dubai was renamed in his honor.

H E Sheikh Tahnoon was the brother-in-law of the founding father of the UAE President, H H Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through his sister Sheikha Hassa’s marriage to Sheikh Zayed.

He was instrumental in developing Al Ain region and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the UAE, working closely with Sheikh Zayed in the declaration of the Union on 2 December 1971, which is celebrated as National Day of Emirates.

Prior to the Union, he served as Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture from 1 July 1971, and was also appointed Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on August 9 of the same year. He held several important positions such as member of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Arab Economy (currently known as the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development) in 1973, Chairman of the Department of Municipality and Agriculture in Al Ain, member of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
