Viet Nam Launches 250 Projects Valued $48.7 Billion

Coinciding with its 80th anniversary of the National Day, as many as 250 projects with a combined investment of $48.7 billion were inaugurated or launched across Viet Nam on Tuesday, providing impetus for the country’s transition into a new stage of growth.

According to Viet Nam’s media reports, the projects include 59 in transport infrastructure, 44 in civil and urban works, 57 in industry, and 36 in technical infrastructure. One of the major projects has been Viettel’s Research and Development Center in Ho Chi Minh City, valued at $37.9 million, which will focus on semiconductors, AI, and data.

Infrastructure remains a strategic breakthrough identified by the 13th National Party Congress. Under the “500 days and nights” campaign launched by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Viet Nam has expanded its expressway network to 2,476 km and coastal roads to 1,397 km, surpassing set targets. By year’s end, the country expects to reach over 3,000 km of expressways, nearly 2,000 km of coastal roads.

Economists predict that these projects will contribute more than 18% to national GDP in 2025 and over 20% in subsequent years, supporting Vietnam’s goal of at least 8% growth in 2025 and double-digit growth from 2026–2030.

Healthcare is another key area. Ten health projects were launched, including the $12.59 million Nghe, an oncology hospital with 1,000 beds. From 2026 to 2030, Vietnam targets 90% of its population having access to comprehensive preventive healthcare and vaccination, and 100% to receive annual health check-ups.

Viet Nam’s rising economic performance underpins these efforts, with per capita GDP climbing from just $121.72 in 1990 to an estimated $4,900 by the end of 2025, and a target of $7,500 by 2030.

A ceremony was held nationwide to simultaneously inaugurate and launch work on these projects and the event took place at the Viet Nam Exposition Centre as the main venue, connected with 79 other sites across the 34 provinces and cities via teleconferencing.

Present at the ceremony held at the main venue in Hanoi were Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai, and many other senior officials.

Double Digit Growth

Speaking on the occasion, Pham Minh Chinh said that the simultaneous ground-breaking and inauguration of 250 projects and works across the country will serve as a catalyst, and generate momentum for double-digit growth in the years to come.

He emphasised that 80 years ago, under the leadership late President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people carried out the historic August Revolution – one of the glorious feats and greatest victories of the Vietnamese nation in the 20th century which helped its people seize power.

The goal by the end of 2025 is to have at least 3,000 km of expressways and 1,000 km of coastal roads nationwide, complete Long Thanh International Airport and Terminal 2 of Noi Bai International Airport, complete at least 100,000 social housing units, commence construction on the high-speed railway, gradually perfect the urban metro systems, build major seaports such as Can Gio and Hon Khoai, and implement strategic infrastructure projects connecting with Laos, Cambodia, and others in ASEAN, Chinh noted.
