Empower Cools 19% of hotels in Dubai

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, on Wednesday confirmed its commitment to supporting the hospitality sector in Dubai.

On the side lines of the ‘Arab Travel Market 2023,’ which is being held in the Dubai World Trade Centre, Empower said that there has been a substantial rise in the number of hotels and hotel apartments utilizing its environmentally friendly district cooling services.

“By the end of 2022, this figure had reached 19% of the total number of hotels and hotel apartments in Dubai, compared to 17% at the end of 2021. The district cooling system enables hotel enterprises to reduce their carbon emissions, thereby supporting the government’s vision to achieve sustainable development and a green economy,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

Empower indicated that six luxury hotels are set to enter the Dubai hotel market this year, and four of them will be served by the company’s district cooling services. These include Atlantis The Royal, with a cooling capacity of 10,650 refrigeration tons (RT), as well as Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, Siro One Zabeel, and One and Only.

Furthermore, Empower is already providing its services to other luxurious hotels, such as Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm Dubai, Caesars Palace Hotel, Address Beach Resort, Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah, The Marriott Hotel, Lana of the Dorchester Group, J.W. Marriott Marquis Dubai, Jumeirah Emirates Towers, The Dorchester Collection Dubai, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Jumeirah Al Naseem, and other international luxury hotels.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said that the district cooling services that Empower provides to the hospitality sector in Dubai align with the emirate’s aspirations for sustainability and are in harmony with the slogan of this year’s exhibition, ‘Working towards achieving net zero emissions.’ “Our goal is to empower all sectors to reduce greenhouse gases by using district cooling services, which have proven effective in protecting the environment and conserving natural resources,” Shafar added.

Shafar stressed that the impressive results of the district cooling systems and their contribution to reducing carbon emissions are consistent with the system followed by hotel establishments in Dubai to calculate the carbon footprints, which supports the government’s vision to reach a green economy and achieve sustainable development.

“It is important for the hospitality sector to adopt district cooling systems as an effective partner in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions,” Shafar concluded.
