Hamad International Airport Named World’s Best Airport
Doha’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) has been named the World’s Best Airport for 2024 at the World Airport Awards, held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Frankfurt last week. HIA also won two more awards for the World’s Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East.
Singapore’s Changi airport, which held the title for 12 years including in 2023, was ranked second in the global ranking, but was named as the Best Airport in Asia and the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service.
Doha and Singapore was followed by Seoul’s Incheon Airport was placed third global survey rankings, was named the World’s Most Family Friendly Airport for 2024, Skytrax, the London–based consultancy that runs an airline and airport review website, said.
Tokyo Haneda Airport was ranked fourth in the global ranking and maintained further outstanding results, being declared the World’s Cleanest Airport, the World’s Best Domestic Airport and as delivering the World’s Best Airport PRM & Accessible Facilities.
Bahrain International Airport achieved notable success, recognised for providing the Best Airport Staff Service in the Middle East. Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport at Medina in Saudi Arabia was declared as the Best Regional Airport in the Middle East.

Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Al Meer said that this year HIA was celebrating its milestone tenth year of operations and they were honoured that passengers have voted HIA as the best airport in the world for a third time besides winning the top awards for Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East for the second consecutive and tenth time respectively.

Tokyo’s Narita Airport has been recognised for customer service, as it was named the World’s Best Airport Staff and Best Airport Staff in Asia. Elsewhere in Japan, New Chitose Airport was voted the World’s Most Improved Airport, after a much improved performance in the global survey, and across many of the category sections. Chubu Centrair International Airport, Nagoya, won the World’s Best Regional Airport award, and Kansai International Airport was recognised for the World’s Best Airport Baggage Delivery.
Rome’s Fiumicino Airport picked up the award for World’s Best Airport Security Processing, the first time they have received this accolade. Terminal A, Newark Liberty Airport achieved success as the World’s Best New Airport Terminal, after earlier receiving the highest 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax.
Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport had excellent success, as its Terminal 3 facility was declared the World’s Best Low-Cost Terminal. Paris Charles de Gaulle was also named Best Airport in Europe for a second successive year.
Istanbul Airport was voted for World’s Best Airport Dining Experience and Best Airport in Southern Europe. Around Europe, Helsinki Vantaa Airport was the Best Airport in Northern Europe, and Budapest Airport was once again named Best Airport in Eastern Europe by the passenger vote.
Cape Town Airport and Durban King Shaka Airport were the major award winners in Africa, with Cape Town named Best Airport in Africa and Best Airport Staff Service in Africa. Durban King Shaka Airport took home the award for Best Regional Airport in Africa.
In China, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport won the award for Best Airport in China. Haikou Meilan International Airport was voted Best Regional Airport in China and Best Airport Staff in China. The Hyatt Regency Shenzhen was named the Best Airport Hotel in China.
Delhi International Airport was again triumphant as the Best Airport in India & South Asia, and its GMR parent, Hyderabad International Airport, was named Best Airport Staff Service in India & South Asia. Bangalore International Airport won the award for Best Regional Airport in India & South Asia. JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity was the Best Airport Hotel in India & South Asia.
