
Overseas Visitation to the US Up 8% in April
The latest data released by the US National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) showed that the US-international air traffic passenger enplanements totalled 22.116 million in April 2025, up 2.8% compared with the same period in April 2024, with enplanements reaching 104.95% of pre-pandemic April 2019 volume.
Similarly, the non-US citizen air passenger arrivals to the US from different countries totalled 5.04 million in April 2025, up 2.9% compared with April 2024. This represents 88.2% of pre-pandemic April 2019 volume, NTTO said.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals totalled 3.047 million in April 2025, which reached 85.6% of pre-pandemic April 2019 volume, up from 82.9% in March 2025 and the April 2025 overseas visitor arrivals increased 8% compared with April 2024, the data showed.
The NTTO figures also revealed that the US citizen air passenger departures from the US to foreign countries totalled to 5.919 million in April 2025, up 6.2% from April 2024, exceeding the April 2019 volume by 24.7%.
Break-Up
Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the US and other countries were led by Mexico (3.449 million), Canada (2.485 million), the UK (1.765 million), the Dominican Republic (913,000), and Japan (875,000).
Europe totalled 6.396 million passengers, up 4.4% over April 2024, and up 3.2% compared with April 2019. The US citizen departures were up 25.9% compared with April 2019, while European citizen arrivals were down 13.5%.
South/Central America/Caribbean totalled 5.450 million, up 0.4% over April 2024, and up 12.2% compared with April 2019. Asia totalled 2.542 million passengers, up 9.3% over April 2024, but down 14.7% compared with April 2019.
Asian citizen arrivals to the US were down 35.7% compared with April 2019, and the US citizen departures were up 14.4%, NTTO data showed.
The top US ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 2.955 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 2.011 million, Miami (MIA) 1.982 million, Newark (EWR) 1.328 million, and San Francisco (SFO) 1.310 million.
The top foreign serving US locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.524 million, Cancun in Mexico (CUN) 1.023 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.020 million, Paris (CDG) 722,000, and Mexico City (MEX) 713,000.
