Second Phase of Digital DEWA’s Green Data Center Inaugurated

H H Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, inaugurated the second phase of the Green Data Center, which is part of Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, ​​the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

The center is the largest solar-powered data centre in the world, at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, Dubai Media Office (DMO) said on Wednesday.

The first phase was inaugurated by H H Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai in 2023.

His Highness Sheikh Maktoum inspected the sections of the second phase of the Green Data Center, where he listened to explanations from DEWA’s MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer about its s integrated solutions, which provide the next generation of services related to digital transformation, cloud computing, hosting services, cybersecurity, smart cities, Internet of Things services, and professional and managed services.

Saeed Al Tayer also said that this strategic achievement reflects the UAE’s leadership in the green economy and enhance their efforts to provide sustainable technologies that consolidate the concept of sustainability for future generations.

Globally Largest

The Green Data Center, the largest of its kind in the world, powered entirely by solar energy, underscores their unwavering commitment to developing sustainable digital solutions that accelerate the UAE’s digital transformation, he said.

The second phase of the Green Data Center, which was launched, is a global model that combines renewable energy technologies and digital innovations, enabling organisations in the region to improve their operational efficiency and reduce their carbon emissions, in line with the UAE’s strategies for clean energy and sustainable digital transformation.

The carbon-neutral green data center is 100% solar-powered and the project is being implemented in 10 phases with a capacity exceeding 100 MWs. The center, which has been certified by the Uptime Institute Tier-III, covers an area of ​​100,000 sq. m.

Moro Hub’s largest solar-powered data center sets a global benchmark for energy efficiency and the use of green technologies, as it uses smart and environmentally friendly technologies that enable businesses in the region to enhance the efficiency of their operations.

The center also plays a major role in developing a sustainable ecosystem by adopting the latest technologies in solar energy, energy storage, artificial intelligence and sustainability systems. The center helps global companies achieve carbon-free supercomputing.
