Etihad Rail and Dubai Industrial City intend to construct an advanced freight terminal

Etihad Rail and (DIC) will have an advanced freight terminal spread across 5.5 million square feet.

Spread over 550 million sq ft, Dubai Industrial City (DCI) is a major business district for local and regional manufacturing and logistics.

Etihad Rail, the creator, and operator of the UAE’s National Rail network is working on the 510-square-meter terminal with Dubai Industrial City, one of the region’s leading manufacturing and logistics centers and part of the TECOM Group.

The UAE’s position as an international commercial hub will be strengthened, as will Dubai’s global competitiveness in manufacturing, logistics, transportation, commerce, and investment.

Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, said that The terminal will contribute to strengthening the supply chain and freight logistics services, in line with the UAE’s efforts to develop the country’s transport and logistics sector. With a capacity of 5 million tonnes, the terminal will connect the industrial and manufacturing centers in the UAE, open new trade routes, and support the country’s sustainable development.

The new terminal will enable hundreds of companies and factories located in Dubai Industrial City and its surrounding areas, to reach two-thirds of the world’s population within eight hours, thanks to the city’s strategic location and its proximity to Jebel Ali Port and Al Maktoum International Airport.

The passenger trains will connect 11 cities and locations in the country from Al Sila to Fujairah. It will operate at speed of up to 200kph and will have a capacity to carry 400 passengers per train. The number of passengers served by Etihad Rail is expected to reach over 36.5 million annually across the country by 2030.

The announcement of the terminal was attended by Eng. Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail; Malek Al Malek, Director General of the Dubai Development Authority and CEO of TECOM Group; Abdulla Belhoul, Chief Commercial Officer of TECOM Group; Saud Abu Alshawareb, Managing Director of Dubai Industrial City, and other officials and key representatives.
